Ex-military officer, Mark Hunter, has seen more than his share of tragedy in his profession, but nothing prepared him for the most horrible of tragedies in his personal life. When he lost his beloved wife and daughter in a freak accident, he held tightly to the only thing he had left in his life, his son Adam. However, Adam is having some very serious issues. He's dreaming terrible dreams where he wakes up speaking in languages that he's never heard. The voices speaking through him belong to those long dead. Although, Adam says he can't remember his dreams, they're still starting to take a toll on him.
Mark calls in the local doctor, Elizabeth Bancroft, to see if there's anything that she can do. He's hoping against hope that the cause of his son's problems isn't something much deeper; something rooted in the blackest of all evils. Mark already knows the answer to what's going on with his precious son, but he doesn't want to believe it. That's why the lovely Dr. Bancroft is going to examine Adam and see if there's a true medical reason for his ailment.
Elizabeth has some ideas about what may be wrong with Adam but she's never seen anything quite like the symptoms he's displaying Everything that she's familiar with in her profession has more to do with psychiatric issues than anything else. However, she starts to quickly realize that Adam is doing things that may be completely out of her ability to treat.
As Elizabeth gets more involved with and more attached to Mark and his son, she resolves to help in any way she can. She's not quite prepared to hear the story that Mark tells her late one cold, snowy night after a particularly distressing episode with Adam. He speaks of witches, curses, and horrible deaths. Then he tells her that it's time he accepts that Adam is cursed and that only he can break that curse.
At first, Elizabeth is doubtful, but as time goes on, she starts to see that there may be more than a grain of truth in his words. She promises Mark that she will help in any way that she possibly can. So Mark leaves Adam in Elizabeth's care while he goes off to face a horror that he had hoped was far in his past. It's the only way to save Adam and make him whole again.
