Jason Bourne fishes a floating body out of an icy lake in snow-covered Sweden. The man is near dead, so Jason takes him to where he is staying and tries to revive him. When the man awakes, Jason realizes he does not remember anything, not even his name. Jason takes him back to the area where he found the man in hopes of jogging his memory. In these frozen northern woods, someone begins shooting at them. As they attempt to escape, shots come from another gun. There are two people shooting at them, and one of those people Jason knows quite well, Rebeka, a Mossad operative. She assists Jason in getting the amnesiac back to the safety of her rented house.
Meanwhile intelligence directors Peter Marks and Soraya Moore of Treadstone have been given a mission by the United States Secretary of Defense: find and eliminate Nicodemo. This order has come straight from the President. Their intelligence search leads them to Bourne, who at this point is crisscrossing the globe with Rebeka, also in search of Nicodemo. All the intelligence they gather leads to a compound in Lebanon, one in which Bourne and Rebeka are very familiar.
This story is filled with many subplots and venues with questions about energy sources, naked earths, and drug money being at the hub. Between the web of lies, betrayals, battling for power and the principle characters scamming each other, we are never sure who the good guys are and which ones are really bad guys. Each of the characters seems to have an agenda that involves eliminate someone else.
Fast-paced and action-packed, Eric Van Lusterbader brilliantly describes the final showdown in true Bourne style. Chocked-full of clandestine operations and international espionage, this thrill-a-minute novel is a winner. Travel across the globe from Sweden to Mexico City, Paris to Lebanon with such personalities as the Babylonian, the Aztec, and Jason and Rebeka. There are some very special ops going down right here on US soil in DC as well. If you are a fan of thrillers JASON BOURNE IMPERATIVE is one that is hard to put down. You will not be disappointed.
