It takes guts to face down your enemy even if the animosity
isn't your fault, guilt by association can be a heavy
burden. Jocelyn left Parable with her head down embarrassed
and ashamed by the actions of her stepfather who fleeced
neighbors out of their life's savings.
Elliot died while in jail for his crime but Jocelyn still
felt this curtain of shame hanging over her head. As
Jocelyn tried to move on she knew there was only one way
for her to get this monkey off her back - even if for only
to salve her own conscience. Her plan was take all the
money she earned with her computer programming company,
sell the company and all her things and pay back everyone
possible. Even if it took every cent she had.
While it was done anonymously some in Parable had a good
idea who was behind the mystery checks. Returning to
Parable meant facing down a lot of people who would rather
never see her again. Luckily there were a few that didn't
judge her and turn their backs, instead willing to lend a
hand.
She needed a job and her friend Kendra provided that as
well as a place to live. Now all Jocelyn had to do was face
down the rest of the town, one at a time.
Sheriff Slade was immediately attracted to the woman
Jocelyn had become even though his opinion was clouded by
memories of her as the spoiled stepdaughter of the towns
infamous Elliot, reminding him how different their worlds
were.
Back then Jocelyn ran around with the same crowd as his
half brother Hutch, John Carmody's acknowledged son and
heir apparent. He couldn't get his head around the fact
that she seemed to be rather down to earth now - fate had
leveled the playing field.
Of course things had changed for Slade as well. It seems
Carmody decided to include him in his will and where the
relationship between the sons had never been good, this new
development seemed doomed to cement their ill will towards
each other. Through a network of misunderstanding and rush
to judgment there were a lot of trust issues that needed to
be resolved before anyone could move forward with their
lives.
Thrust into this quagmire quite innocently was Jocelyn
whose friendship with Hutch was threatening whatever
relationship she was to have with Slade. Nothing like a
little competition to heat up the works -- and the race to
the finish was going to hopefully end with a happy ending
with love as the grand prize. I'm totally hooked on this
new series placed in Parable and can't wait for the next
installment which will hopefully face off Hutch and Kendra.
There are lots of really wonderful characters in this
little town rich with story
lines sure to entertain Miller fans for some time to come.
As usual Miller teaches us a little lesson in forgiveness
and love helped along with a supporting cast of pets who
can humanize and crack even the hardest shell. BIG SKY
COUNTRY is sure to please all Miller fans.
