Seth has been torturing Solin to get him to reveal the
location of the key to Mt. Olympus. Lydia, a woman who Solin
has taken care of since her mother passed away and thinks of
as his daughter decides to take on the mission to save Solin
and she trades places with Solin while he goes to retrieve
the key for their freedom. While Lydia spends her time as
prisoner to Seth she begins to see that there is much more
to him than others think and she finds the man he hides from
them all. He is not a bad man. He is only doing as he is
made to. As Noir's guardian he must do things that he does
not want to do. Rejected, betrayed and made into a slave all
of his life has made Seth mean and untrusting but Lydia vows
to show him the love and understanding that has been missing
from his life.
Watching the two develop and embrace their relationship was
a beautiful read. I love seeing Seth become the man that
Lydia sees and knows is in there. I enjoyed Lydia she is a
strong woman who cares deeply for the ones that she loves
and will do just about anything for them. Seth is a good man
who just needed the right woman by his side and Lydia is
just that woman. Lydia and Seth not only must learn to trust
one another but they must also fight for each other. Seth
has gone through so much yet he still keeps his humanity,
which is what Lydia sees and wants to bring back fully. I
loved that these two were not afraid to give their hearts
even knowing how much it might hurt.
As with all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's previous books, THE
GUARDIAN comes with all the sarcasm and action she can pack
into it. Making this a nice addition to the Dream Hunter's
series. I think that each storyline whether it be the Dark
Hunters, weres, or the Dream Hunter's, has its own balance
and style. While they all fit together in this wondrous
world they each seem to read a bit differently. While I did
enjoy this book it is not one of my favorites in the series.
I would have liked a bit more at the ending which seemed a
little rushed and more information on how the key comes into
play in this world would have been nice.
THE GUARDIAN is a great installment in the series and has me
eagerly awaiting the next book to see what Sherrilyn Kenyon
comes up with next for this world.
Dream-Hunter Lydia has been charged with the most sacred and
dangerous of missions: To descend into the Nether Realm and
find the missing god of dreams before he betrays the secrets
that could kill her and her kind. What she never expects is
to be taken prisoner by the Realm’s most vicious guardian…
Seth’s time is running out. If he can’t hand over the
entrance to Olympus, his own life and those of his people
will be forfeit. No matter the torture, Seth hasn’t been
able to break the god in his custody. Then there’s the
beautiful Dream-Hunter Lydia: She isn’t just guarding the
gates of Olympus—she’s holding back one of the world’s
darkest powers. If she fails, an ancient curse will haunt
the earth once more and no one will be safe. But evil is
always seductive...
