In BREAKAWAY the action of the players on the New York Blades hockey team moves to Ballycraig, Ireland. Rory Brady grew up in Ballycraig until he and his family moved to the United States where he discovered hockey. Now, the first Irish player in the NHL loves living in New York and playing for the Blades. So much so, that he let his new-found fame go to his head causing him to break his engagement to Erin O'Brien when she demanded they set a wedding date. Two years later, he's realized he made a big mistake turning his back on the love of his life and his Irish friends. He's back in Ballycraig during the off-season to make amends and win Erin back, assuming she's still interest.

Erin was devastated when Rory broke their engagement. It has taken her a long time to recover from the heartbreak. She quit her job and has been living and working at her parent's B and B. Erin has been secretly taking on-line courses and is about to graduate with her degree in Art History. She's ready to explore to world without Rory if she can just breakaway from her mother. When Rory returns she determined avoid him... except she still loves him... and he's pretty determined. Can Rory prove he plans to love her forever?

Fans of the Blades series will thoroughly enjoy the latest installment in the series. Since the majority of the story takes place in Ireland, we don't see much of the other players, though one does come to visit and stir things up. The change in setting adds a colorful twist to the story through which we get to spend time at a quintessential Irish pub and sheep farm. I liked Erin and Rory and enjoyed reading the twists and turns they go thorough to find their way back to each other. There is a subplot involving Erin's best friends that adds depth and drama to the story.
