"20 delightful projects for that special little girl"

Fresh Fiction Review

Lovely Knits for Little Girls

Non-Fiction

First let me say I appreciate the lovely photos of all the projects in this beautiful book, they are shown as fronts and back displaying all the details which makes not only the completion of the item easier but also a great aid in the joining and finishing. Sondergaard wants to assure success for the potential knitter and goes to great lengths to do just that. She also has a sense of humor and uses it to warn her reader when the project requires patience. How much nicer is that then to simply grade it as easy to hard. As a seasoned knitter and crocheter I like being forewarned before diving into a garment just in case I had intended it to be a quicker easier while watching television endeavor. There is a time and place for all types of projects and this book gives instructions for all. Even the novice will find projects here and hopefully gain confidence to try something a little more challenging. Warm Loopy Vest is a gas to make. Once you have a rhythm with the loops is flies off the needles and since it is a cropped item before you know it it's done. This is one that you will enjoy as it is just adorable even while still on your needles. My suggestion is make it one size larger than you think so that it lasts longer since I really believe it will be a child's favorite. The other section which is fun is the skirt/snood. Never heard of a snood, well neither had I but Sondergaard took an oversize cowl and with a piece of elastic fashioned a cabled skirt that is so easy you'll wonder why you never thought to do that. And the bonus is that it is done in one piece. I judge a knitting or crocheting book on how many projects I like enough to make and there are plenty in LOVELY KNITS FOR LITTLE GIRLS ranging in sizes from 3 to 8 years which makes this book a keeper.

SUMMARY

While project books for making baby knits abound, what happens when your little cherub turns two? Lovely Knits for Little Girls solves the problem beautifully, with twenty patterns for pint-sized vests, dresses, sweaters, and skirts —all brimming with pretty, girly details. Forget about baby- weight yarn, tiny needles, and fussy patterns for clothes that are quickly outgrown. For Lovely Knits, knitwear designer Vibe Sondegaard creates a bright, stylish, little- girl wardrobe of fabulous projects that knit up quickly and allow knitters plenty of opportunity for trying a few design tricks (cables, bobbles, lace patterns) on a manageable, kid-sized scale. Best of all, the pattern shapes size up or down easily (with back of book instruction on doing just that), making this collection versatile enough to use again and again.
