Charlie Martin quit her job as a police officer hoping to work for Ranger Security. She should have known better since they won't hire any females but she lets them know what they missed out on at the end of her interview. Jay Weatherford, a former Army Ranger is hired instead. Jay has no idea about Charlie until his first assignment investigating a dog-napping has them butting heads.

Charlie's hacking skills let her know Jay would be the person they hired but she never expected to run into him. Their client wants both investigators to work together in finding her beloved pet. Jay enjoys matching wits with such a worthy opponent although he would enjoy sharing her bed even more. All too soon Charlie is forced to admit that Jay is not incompetent and she is wildly attracted to him. Working so closely together in the same house, it is just a matter of time before they end up in bed together. It's what happens when the case ends that has Jay worried since he has no intentions on letting her go.

THE PHOENIX is a mixture of sugar and spice. The plot is cute yet the romance delivers plenty of heat, throw a light weight mystery in, some lovable characters and snatches of humor in the mix and you will close this book with a smile on your face.
