Mystery | Women's Fiction Contemporary

Staring into the window of the Mayor's McMansion, they could not believe their eyes! Yet, what they saw was so vivid and so shocking; the four newly acquainted almost instant friends knew it just had to be deadly real. Then when the Mayor saw that they saw him, they were truly scared! At a swanky Hallowe'en party in Greenwich, Connecticut, a photographer dressed as Lois Lane couldn't resist pulling together the four guests all dressed like Sarah Palin: three gorgeous fit women and a handsome guy. As they connected, chatted and regaled each other with wisecracks, they soon realized they knew each other from the same 8:30 am Yoga class. Then, fueled with the bubbles of alcohol and friendly bravado, they decided to walk next door to see the monstrous house that the Mayor had recently built. Sneaking a peek in a window, they were shocked to see the Mayor decked in bondage gear wrapping a woman, who looked dead, into a Persian rug! The next morning, they each received blackmail letters whose individual contents not only would instantly ruin their lives, but would also devastate the lives of their family. Not knowing what to do, the four had only each other for support on what was happening to them. Having gained riches from her butt cellulite cream, Coco Guthrie still felt a bit like an outsider in this wealthy WASPy town, yet her cool logic and business sense was like an anchor for the others who all had their own strengths and areas of vulnerability. She quickly supported Bailey, the gorgeous celebrity reporter who loved action both on and off the camera, when Bailey started investigating what was going. With good fortune, Bailey had reached the handsome and athletic Rob Casey, a well-connected FBI agent on loan to the Greenwich police for personal reasons and who had also been doing security work at the party. Rob couldn't resist the urge to do some real police work, but why did the Police Chief want to block his efforts? With her strong background experience and knowledge in radio and television, Cooper Lawrence deftly and authentically allows us to glimpse into the rarefied world of the ûber rich as she shamelessly intersperses the names and actions of both real and fictional famous people in THE YOGA CLUB, her debut novel. The four main characters are intriguing in their own right as she realistically portrays their vulnerabilities and insecurities as well as the challenges they need to content with in their super wealthy lives. With lots of glib one liners and witty repartee, celebrity fans and others are sure to enjoy this light hearted, almost comic in a good sense, suspense novel. Enjoy!
