COLLATERAL DAMAGE, the first book of the Silent Warrior
series by J.L. Saint (aka Jennifer St. Giles and Jennifer
Saints), finds Jack Hunter AWOL from his Delta Force Team
while recovering from a serious injury. A terrorist missile
killed and injured his team and left him with partial memory
loss. The one thing he does recall clearly is the American
businessman he spotted just as everything went to hell.
It's this man and Jack's need to uncover the truth that
lead him to Lauren Collins, the soon to be ex-wife of the
man he saw. Jack finds Lauren caring for her sons and dogs,
trying to protect her family against the effects of a
cheating and unreliable husband and father. Soon, they've
joined forces against a deadly threat neither understands.
COLLATERAL DAMAGE is a non-stop action adventure. The
number of good guys, bad guys, points of views, and plot
developments was at times confusing. There was a lot going
on, making the story feel rather fractured. Some of the
details may be attributed to the background needed when
introducing a new series. The characters were complex and
intriguing. Jack was appropriately alpha-male, rugged, and
handsome. Lauren held here own against the threat. There
was an intriguing sub-plot that I'm sure will continue to be
weaved through future books in the series.
After a terrorist missile devastates leaves Jack Hunter with only partial memory of a FUBARed rescue mission, he retains only one clear picture no one believes: the face of a prestigious American businessman. The man’s widow has to know why he was involved in a terrorist plot. Lauren Collins is unaware how far her soon-to-be-ex’s web of deceit reaches—until the only thing between her, her sons and a killer is a wounded Delta soldier who activates her sorely neglected X-chromosome. Thrust into a world of peril, political treachery and treason, Lauren has no choice but to trust Jack with her life. Even if they survive, she’s not sure her heart will.
