Former police detective, Sami Rizzo, barely escaped with her
life when she was captured by a serial killer. It was such a
horrific experience that she left the police force and
started on a path to become a social worker. Now, two years
later, she's starting to realize that her idealistic view of
the future isn't working out quite the way she envisioned
it. Her live in lover, Alberto Diaz, also used to be her
partner when she was on the force. Life is pretty good for
the most part but something just doesn't feel right.
Then the rug is suddenly pulled out from under her when her
mother suffers from a serious heart attack and will need
immediate surgery. On top of that, there seems to be a very
different sort of serial killer on the loose and Al is hip
deep in the investigation. In the middle of all of this, Al
gets a phone call from his sister's companion telling him
that she's been in a horrible accident and is just barely
clinging to life in Rio. He has to take off and leave in the
middle of the investigation.
With Al gone, there's a shortage of qualified investigators
to catch this serial killer now called The Resuscitator, who
is also escalating in his killing spree. Sami reaches the
decision that she's needed to help stop this monster so she
requests to be reinstated to the police force. With Al
missing in action and no set date to come back, Sami is
reinstated and welcomed back with open arms.
The investigation takes her to places that give her plenty
of twists and turns to deal with. In spite of a really good
description of the murderer, it seems that he's still just a
face in the crowd. No one knows what his motives are and
when he'll strike next. Nothing makes sense in this case for
a very good reason: Their killer is a cardiologist, a man
sworn to help heal people.
Things get sketchy when Al returns from Rio with a huge
secret that can change his relationship with Sami forever.
Sami's also got a secret of her own that can be just as life
changing. The two of them must work through their personal
issues while working on stopping The Resuscitator before he
takes out another victim.
RESUSCITATION is the second book in the Sami Rizzo series by
D.M. Annechino. It was very well written and grabbed me from
the very first sentence. As I always judge a book by how
hard it is for me to put it down, this was definitely a 10.
I carried it with me everywhere I went and had to force
myself to stop reading it for work and sleep. It's just that
good of a book. Even though the killer is introduced early
on, you still don't know who it really is until the end of
the book. That's hard to pull off but Mr. Annechino does it
admirably.
A mentally unbalanced doctor in San Diego, possessed with
his research, has found the perfect way to test his
experiments ; he brings his captured victims to the brink of
death, and then resuscitates them, so he can monitor the
process over and over again. Sammi Rizzo, the detective from
Annechino's previous best-selling thriller (#28 in Germany
right now!), once again must try and outwit a master
criminal and overcome her fears and a personal crisis at the
same time. It moves with the same breakneck speed as They
Never Die Quietly.
