Delaney, the main character, will keep the reader on
his/her toes right from the beginning of the novel. She
falls through the ice while with her friends and barely
makes it out alive. In fact, by all accounts she should be
brain dead. She was underwater for eleven minutes, in
freezing water during winter. When she wakes up from her
coma, Delaney discovers she has a unique talent. She also
experiences a scary event while in her coma that will
continue to be a creepy undertone throughout the novel.
Decker, Delaney's best friend and the one who pulled her
from the water, is a potential love interest. Decker can
be too childlike at times, the reader may want to shake
him. However, he has plenty of good traits that will have
the reader rooting for the possible relationship. Troy, a
boy who may have the same ability as Delaney, is an
obstacle to this potential relationship. He throws a
wrench in the plot, the reader will have to decide who is
truly helping Delaney and who is the antagonist of this
novel.
FRACTURE has many plenty of twists and discoveries all which
keep the reader on the edge of her seat, making FRACTURE
impossible to put down. Be sure to add to your reading list
and keep Megan Miranda on your to watch list.
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from
the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker
Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain
had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow
defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine
-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage.
Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's
far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't
control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the
dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?
Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a
coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to
find someone who understands the strangeness of her new
existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives
aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a
freak of nature-or something much more frightening?
