DESIRED is told in a series of short chapters from the
perspective of three different women, we see Samson as a man
who faces betrayal by two of them.
Our first introduction to Samson is as an adored son; born
to a mother in her old age who has been told of her son's
future greatness by an angel. She manipulates him until he
meets a Philistine girl with whom he falls in love.
Our next view is of an inept suitor. A Hebrew who seeks to
marry a Philistine is a source of contempt. When his wife
betrays him to the village, Samson takes his first step
toward notoriety.
We are introduced to Delilah next. A famed seductress who
will lead Samson to the final chapter of his life.
The various viewpoints of DESIRED tended to disengage this
reader but readers familiar with the biblical era could get
engrossed in the interplay of the characters of this
familiar story of Samson and Delilah.
Meet the legendary Samson as you've never known him before …
through the eyes of the three women who loved him. Before
Samson was an Old Testament legend, he was a prodigal son,
an inexperienced suitor, a vengeful husband, and a lost soul
driven by his own weakness. This is his story as told by
three strong women who loved him—the nagging, manipulative
mother who pushed him toward greatness, the hapless
Philistine bride whose betrayal propelled him into
notoriety, and the emotionally damaged seductress—the famous
Delilah—who engineered his downfall and propelled him to his
destiny. Desired celebrates the God of Israel's to work
powerfully in the midst of hopes, fears, desires, and sorrows.
