HIDE FROM EVIL, Jami Alden's follow-up to Beg for Mercy, brings back Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Krista Slater and Sean Flynn. Krista had a hand in putting Sean on death row for murder and in freeing him when it became clear he was innocent. Her guilt in sending an innocent man to prison and her certainty that the man who committed that murder did not act alone, has her investigating a case in spite of the fact everyone is telling her to let it go. Her search for the truth leads her to Sean's door for help. Sean, still dealing with the effects of years in prison, just wants to be left alone and is not happy to see her. He is even less thrilled with his strong attraction to this woman he should despise. Pretty soon Sean and Krista are on the run from someone who wants them dead and they have no idea who to trust. The deception and betrayal runs deep and they will have to face some hard truths to get through this alive.
Usually I like to read a series in order but I didn't get the chance to this time. While I might have enjoyed the story more had I read Beg for Mercy, it wasn't necessary for me to follow the story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading HIDE FROM EVIL, so I'll likely read the first book before the third book, Run from Fear, is released. I was thoroughly captivated by both the suspense and romantic elements of the story. Krista and Sean are fully developed characters, each dealing with his/her own demons. The supporting characters (good-guys, bad-guys, and something in-between) add a richness and complexity to the story. You will undoubtedly find yourself holding your breath as you follow the risks Sean and Krista take to find the truth and to open their hearts to each other.
Like a chess master, he carefully weighs his next
move . . . advancing slowly until he is sure he can capture
his helpless pawn. For in his mind, thereβs no way
to . . .
Sean Flynn should feel lucky heβs alive. But his betrayal
by a close friendβand two years on death rowβhave left him
feeling only numb. When his conviction was overturned, Sean
retreated to a quiet woodland cabin, far away from prying
eyes. There, he believed the past couldnβt come back to
haunt him . . . until she showed up.
Overcome with guilt, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Krista
Slater canβt forgive herself for convicting an innocent
man. But when another brutal murder reveals chilling, new
facts about his case, she must turn to Sean for help. Sheβs
ready to face his anger, but the desire in his eyes ignites
a need sheβs never felt before. Shadowed by danger, Sean
and Krista uncover a twisted maze of deception and betrayalβ
all under the dangerous gaze of a cunning mastermind who
will do whatever it takes to keep his evil secrets safe.
