Life is about discovery. Discovering who we are and who we can become by setting goals. But what happens when events or people greatly impact how we view ourselves -- our worth? Our lives can take a decidedly different path than we would have initially planned. Twins are extraordinary people in many ways, oftentimes content in being the second half of a whole and sharing a special unique bond. But there are other times when twins take extraordinary measures to become their own unique person. In TWINS we meet two sets of twins, neither identical, and their differences are what essentially cause great riffs in their relationship to each other.
The birth story of Charles and Jason was traumatic and tragic with their mother dying during childbirth. Her death devastated their father Elliot and he became a most tragic figure himself. Consumed with grief he struck out in a most irrational way by alienating the second twin, Charles, whose unexpected birth caused the mother's death. Jason and Charles had a special wonderful natural bond made all the stronger by Charles' early acknowledgment of his brother's problems and with their twin communication he alone could and would help Jason cope. But Elliot was so lost in his hatred he purposely separated the boys whenever possible leaving one child confused and distraught over why he was cast aside and the other son equally disturbed by feelings of abandonment of the brother he so greatly needed. Hurt and betrayal ultimately led to distrust and the chasm between Charles and Jason seemed almost impossible to bridge. Only a miracle or disaster could ever bring them together but getting them to trust each other would take even greater steps.
Brooke and Melanie are the second set of twins with an equally dysfunctional relationship borne of insecurities and misunderstandings that would ultimately make them distrustful and distant. But when Melanie becomes the latest victim of this crazed rapist/murderer and survives, the twins are forced to reexamine their pasts and face some harsh truths about the relationship they abandoned so many years ago. Sometimes an innocent remark can become the catalyst for bitter feelings especially when the recipient of the comment is already having self doubts and insecurities.
The lives of these two sets of twins are entwined throughout this masterful telling of a serial murder spree seeming to randomly target beautiful women. Two sets of twins with sad destructive pasts desperately in need of love. We are instantly drawn into the drama and it does not let up till the very end. This is a reissue of one of Katherine stone's books targeting the eBook market. Love, hate, fear, and betrayal, what more can a reader ask for? A signature Stone work.
