As a long-time reader of the Otherworld Novels, I would
like the D'Artigo sisters, particularly Camille, to go on
vacation from their constant war. Perhaps the next book
will feature a little of the promised downtime that this
book does not provide! In the opening scene, the heroes are
returning from their previous adventure, and they get
absolutely no time to rest. Instead of getting to snuggle
for about a week with her three husbands, Camille has to go
deal with a vendetta started by her dragon husband,
Smoky's, dad. Meanwhile, a portal absorbs her friend,
Chase, and Camille has torment upon torment heaped upon her
for the rest of the book; she's a great protagonist,
though. Even while she is in agony, she tries to save
others. The work is, as are all of Yasmine Galenorn's,
magical and detailed and fantastic; for some readers,
immersion into Camille's world is a catalyst for relaxation
and relief that no matter what the mundane world throws at
us, we aren't going through her troubles, but some readers
may find that Galenorn's excellent writing style and
attention to detail cause them to stress out over Camille's
life as much as their own!
We're the D'Artigo sisters: sexy, savvy ex-operatives for
the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But being half-human,
half-Fae means our powers go haywire at all the wrong times.
My sister Delilah is a Death Maiden and werecat who belongs
to the Autumn Lord. My sister Menolly is a vampire who's
dating a gorgeous werepuma, and the godfather of the
undead-set. And me? I'm Camille, Priestess of the Moon
Mother, married to a dragon, a youkai, and a Svartan. But my
dragon father-in-law has decided that he doesn't like having
me for a member of the family...
It's Winter Solstice, and Aeval welcomes me into her Court
of Darkness. With Morio still dangerously weak from his
injuries and Vanzir alive only thanks to my silence, the
thought of training under Morgaine doesn't seem as daunting
as it did. But then, Hyto returns to shatter my life.
Captured and swept off to the Dragon Reaches, can I manage
to stay alive long enough to escape, even as Smoky's father
intends to break my spirit, then my body?
