Mystery | Suspense

When Nora and Charlotte were 11-years-old, their 16-year-old baby sitter, Rose, mysteriously vanished. They delved headfirst into a full scale investigation of their own, aided by the Time Life set of books called Mysteries of the Unknown. Charlotte was clearly the stronger of the two girls and she took the lead in pulling Nora along with her into hypnosis, astral projection, psychometry, and various other occult means of finding Rose. Another part of the story is that Nora was the last one known to see Rose alive, and this changed Nora's life forever.

Now that both girls are adults and leading their own separate lives miles away from each other, a body is found in their home town of Waverly. It's believed to be the body of the long lost Rose. Charlotte gets in touch with Nora, who immediately plans a trip back to Waverly. When she arrives, it seems that not a lot has changed and she remembers why she couldn't wait to get away in the first place.

Revisiting the past sometimes just isn't a great idea but she feels she must find out what happened to Rose so many years ago. She gets in touch with Toby, her almost boyfriend at one time, who can't decide if he's happy to see her or not. Charlotte is acting really strange by pulling out poems that were submitted long ago to their old high school's literary magazine. These poems sound suspiciously like Rose may have written them, but she was already missing when they were anonymously submitted.

There are many players in the life of Rose, Nora, and Charlotte and any of these people could have been responsible for her disappearance. Nora seems to be the most determined to figure out the mystery as she digs into what she knows from that time and pieces it together with what she discovers after the fact.

Told in both the past and the present, IN SEARCH OF THE ROSE NOTES is one of the most captivating mysteries you're likely to pick up. It will grab and hold your attention until the final page, where all of the answers will be revealed. You'll be happy you came along for the ride.

SUMMARY

At age eleven, Nora and Charlotte are the best of friends—until their teenager babysitter, Rose, disappears under mysterious circumstances. They decide to “investigate,” using paranormal theories and techniques they glean from a hand-me-down collection of Time-Life books. But their search goes nowhere, and leaves both girls distraught and angry with each other.

In her late twenties, Nora is drawn back her old neighborhood, and to Charlotte, when Rose’s bones are found. She was probably murdered, and Charlotte is adamant that they solve the crime. Nora—who was the last known person to see Rose alive—is forced to reconsider her memory of the events surrounding the disappearance, and her own troubled adolescence following those fateful days. And she’s not sure if she’s ready to face the secrets that begin to surface.

Told in alternating narratives from the past and present, this is a mystery about broken friendship and the unease of revisiting adolescent memory.
