Shiloh P. Jacobs thinks she has her life together. She's a
journalist working for the AP in Japan and is engaged to
the most handsome man in the world. She's worked hard to
get where she is today; she's done it all by herself with
no support from anyone, especially not her parents.
Shiloh's dad left when she was seven and her mom moved from
job-to-job and boyfriend-to-boyfriend. Shiloh has crafted
herself into a strong and confident young woman.
A late night phone call shatters Shiloh's world. She learns
her mom has died of a brain aneurysm. Even more shocking to
Shiloh, Ellen Jacobs left her a house, car, everything.
Shiloh hasn't seen her mom in years and hardly ever talks
to her. Ellen just wasn't a part of Shiloh's life. In a
whirlwind, Shiloh purchases a plane ticket and heads to
Cartersville, Virginia, where Ellen had been living for the
past several years. Before the fateful phone call, Shiloh
didn't even know where her mom lived.
Shiloh arrives in a small redneck town in the middle of
nowhere. She dubs "Southern speak" a whole other language.
Shiloh can't wait to get through this funeral, sell her
mother's house and get back to her beloved, adopted country
of Japan. But Faye, a good friend of her mom's from church,
takes Shiloh under to her wing and shows her great
compassion. Shiloh can't believe how sincere and caring
Faye is. She's never been treated this way by anyone.
Shiloh also makes friends with Becky and Tim Donaldson and
Adam Carter when they help her out of a real jam. As she
moves into her mother's home and begins to put pieces of
her mom's life here together, Shiloh senses her mom found
true peace after all these years in this simple Southern
town. Cartersville and the people begin to grow on Shiloh.
One tragedy after another befalls Shiloh as she tries to
put her own life back on track. Gradually, Shiloh realizes
her life is not totally in her control and she is not at
peace with who she has become. Shiloh finds it hard to
believe that people really care about her and that
strangers are trying to help her understand what is really
important in life.
If you're a Southerner, you'll have no trouble reading
the "Southern speak" in SOUTHERN FRIED SUSHI. There are
hilarious moments when Shiloh experiences true Southern
culture and cuisine. Her New York roots really clash with
Southern traditions. Will Shiloh stay in Cartersville and
find true peace in her life or seek to rebuild it
elsewhere? This is an inspirational story that will surely
touch your heart. It is a tale of someone searching for
their own destiny and finding it right at their fingertips.
Don't miss this special treat!
Ride the rollercoaster of Shiloh Jacobs’s life as her dreams
derail, sending her on a downward spiral from the heights of
an AP job in Tokyo to penniless in rural Virginia. Trapped
in a world so foreign to her sensibilities and surrounded by
a quirky group of friends, will she break through her
hardened prejudices before she loses those who want to help
her? Can she find the key to what changed her estranged
mother’s life so powerfully before her death that she became
a different woman—and can it help Shiloh too?
