A matchmaker born on the wrong side of the blanket, Sophie Reynard has the gift of finding the perfect someone for what seems like everyone but herself. Knowing she can never find love with a highborn gentleman, given her illegitimacy, Sophie nonetheless is determined to find the kind of happily ever after she's given her friends. When she finds what she thinks is the perfect non-aristocratic man to fall for, Sophie discovers her mistake long after succumbing to a night of passion. With no other option, Sophie disappears from the gentleman's life, leaving no trace of her identity.
Nicholas Tenbury, Marquess of Ancroft, may not know who Sophie is, but he's determined to find the enchanting woman who stole his heart in just one night. With no success through the usual means, Nicholas turns to a matchmaker to help him in his search only to find the woman herself is the matchmaker he goes to for help. When Sophie refuses to marry him, Nicholas sets out to win her over with all his seductive powers. He's not counting on Sophie's stubbornness or her fear of society shunning Nicholas for marrying a bastard. What began as a seduction soon turns into a battle of wills with a lifetime of happiness at stake.
ONE NIGHT SCANDAL is the type of book that'll keep you reading even though you know what's going to happen in the story. Though fairly predictable, Christie Kelley has done a great job of writing a story you get immersed in, regardless of whether or not you know what's going to happen. My only problem with the book was that I thought it threw one too many obstacles in the way of the couple on their road to happily ever after. It just got to the point where I almost didn't care if they made it together at the end, if they were going to be so stupid and careless. Though, as absorbed as I was in the book, there was no way I was going to put it down, no matter how annoyed I became with the characters. All in all, a well written book and a great way to pass a few hours.
Born on the wrong side of the blanket, matchmaker Sophie
Reynard understands the consequences of unbridled desire all
too well. Despite the many highborn friends she has matched,
falling in love with an aristocrat without a pedigree of her
own would be an act of futility. But that doesn't stop her
from succumbing to one evening of anonymous
passion...Nicholas Tenbury, Marquess of Ancroft, knows
nothing of Sophie's lineage. He knows only that the
enchanting beauty captured his heart in one night and then
fled, leaving no trace of her identity. But when he seeks
answers from London's finest matchmaker, he finds none other
than the woman herself - stubbornly refusing to acknowledge
the attraction they share! Now the enamored Marquess has no
choice but to sway Sophie with seduction...
