Romance Paranormal | Fantasy

Pye dragon warrior Rafferty Powell issued a death challenge to Magnus Montmorency. While staking out Magnus' house, he spots a female breaking in. Rafferty is curious about why a human would be breaking into an evil madman's house. Investigative reporter, Melissa Smith is after Magnus for the death of a friend. She intends to find proof of his dirty dealings in the house. Melissa gets her proof and more when she witnesses the unusual sight of real dragons battling it out. She uses her camera to capture the fight. Rafferty wounds Magnus but he manages to get away and now he must find the reporter and get those photos before they become public. Too late, Melissa has posted them on her blog and now everyone knows there are dragons among them. On top of the Pye exposure, Rafferty must contend with his firestorm; something he has waited centuries for. A Pye's firestorm means they must mate, but Rafferty tries to resist the fire brewing between him and Melissa. Then there is the darkfire that is affecting all of the dragons and no one knows if the darkfire will change things for good or evil. Melissa never imagined she would be in the middle of a tempestuous relationship or that she would have to make some personal choices she may not be ready for. With all that's going on between them, their shared common goal is to destroy Magnus no matter what.

DARKFIRE KISS drew me in from the very first page. The premise makes for an interesting read and the sensual intensity between the lead characters could very easily singe the pages but too many characters made reading DARKFIRE KISS a little confusing. I had to backtrack a few times to see if I had missed something. This book is part of a series and every person from previous books makes a brief appearance for about half a page each. It interfered with my enjoyment of this story.

SUMMARY

Rafferty Powell has exchanged challenge coins with his arch- nemesis Magnus Montmorency, and their next battle will be their last. But Rafferty never expected to meet a woman whose desire for Magnus’ downfall matches his own — and whose presence sparks Rafferty’s long-awaited firestorm.

Since facing her own mortality, investigative reporter Melissa Smith has resolved to live without fear. She’s determined to make the seemingly untouchable Magnus pay for his role in ending her friend’s life – no matter the price to herself.

When her quest entwines with Rafferty’s, Melissa finds herself risking more than she ever thought possible. Because the heat between them unleashes the darkfire — an awesome force of Pyr legend, one that won’t be sated until everything they know has been tested and remade.
