Astrid Bjorklund, a young newly trained doctor, had gone in
the summer of 1904 (at the request of her good friend, Dr.
Red Hawk) to help his people on the Rosebud Indian
Reservation in South Dakota and was shocked by what she and
her team of helpers found. So many people already dead and
many other dying from the measles brought by the
white settlers to a people with no immunity and already
ravaged from the near starvation caused by the greed of the
previous Indian Agent.
As He Who Walks Tall laid burning up with fever, Astrid knew
in her heart that she had to save him or
risk losing any trust with the small group of survivors. As
she attempted to give him a bit of broth to build this
young man's strength, she prayed for a way to break his
fever.
Meanwhile, back in Blessing, Astrid's home town, Joshua
Landsverk, was grappling with how to overcome the rejection
he had felt from his beautiful Astrid when he tried to stop
her from going to help those Indians he hated so much. What
could he do to win her for his wife?
As Astrid struggles to rein in her temper to get the needed
supports from the new Indian Agent, Mr. Moore, and
placates his young wife who refuses to adapt to condition
in the west, she has precious few moments to think about
Joshua. Yet, when she does, she realizes he is not for
her. Does that mean that God intends for her to give up
dreams of a husband and family?
As legions of Lauraine Snelling fans will attest, the
author has an amazing ability to pull you right into the
hearts and thoughts of the people in the rapidly growing
community of Blessing, North Dakota in its early
homesteading years. While the focus is on Astrid's future
and Joshua's dilemma, Snelling brings to full blossom the
struggles and joys of others in their family as the
community embraces and supports its new arrivals and the
challenges they face. This latest addition is sure to be a
captivating hit for fans already familiar with the Blessing
series, and readers new to Snelling will be sure to relish
the wisdom, simple joys, and comfort in A HEART FOR HOME
and delight in having more to read from this gifted author.
Astrid Bjorklund is on the Red Bud Indian Reservation in
South Dakota trying to stop the horrific epidemic that is
ravaging the tribe. The elders are suspicious of her, but
when they see some of their people beginning to recover,
they allow Astrid to continue caring for the sick and to
train others to help. She is overwhelmed by this need so
close to home and wonders if this is the mission field God
has planned for her.
Joshua Landsverk wants to repair his broken relationship
with Astrid, but he is opposed to her present work and
refuses to tell her why. When he encounters unexpected
adversity, a surprising act of kindness brings healing to
the grievous wrong inflicted years ago. Will it be enough to
bring Joshua and Astrid together again?
