BITE ME is the first in a series by Parker Blue and stars
Val Shapiro, a half succubus/half human vampire hunter.
Definitely a twist on all those vampire stories out there!
From the get-go, we are launched into Val's situation: her
mother has just kicked her out of the house for being a bad
influence on her sister; she can only keep the succubus
demon part of her sated via sex or violence (Val chooses
violence for now); she has no paying job and nowhere to
live. Not an inspiring start. But once she meets Fang, a
hellhound, things start to get better. She gets a job with
the local police and her partner, Dan, is a total hottie.
Great for Val; not so good for 'Lola.' As Val and Dan work
on the local problem of normally solitary vamps seemingly
packing up, an unknown man that has appeared to Val's
stepfather over the years becomes a mystery Val can no
longer ignore.
This story started out rather abruptly. I felt like the
author just sort of dropped us in the story and then
scrambled to catch us up. But Ms. Blue soon gets into the
rhythm of things. Her mysteries were intriguing and the
endings were unexpected, although how she gets us there can
be a little clumsy. The best part of the series? The very
premise of a half-succubus hunter. The fight scenes were
good, the romance better and the tension excellent. I was
happy to have the second book in the series on hand to move
on to immediately!
Life after high school is tough enough without having to go
15 rounds with your inner demon. Val Shapiro is just your
ordinary, part-demon, teenaged vampire hunter with a Texas
drawl. And a pet hellhound named Fang. Soon enough she finds
herself deep in the underbelly of the city, discovering the
secrets of the Demon Underground and fighting to save those
she loves. Whether they love her back or not.
