This is the second book in the Val Shapiro series by Parker Blue. TRY ME has Val feeling a little more sure of herself and her abilities. In the beginning, there is a perplexing issue with Dan, who is suddenly giving Val the cold shoulder, but we the reader don't care much because there is a new man in Val's life: Shade. This intriguing new character is a shadow demon whose handsome countenance is only revealed when he's physically touching someone. In addition, the mystery man is no longer a mystery and Val finally feels like she's got some extended family via the demon community. Val is starting to think maybe she doesn't need to try so hard to rectify things with her mother after all. That's when things start to go wonky of course! A new vamp rises above the others, claiming they want to go public and start up donor sites where humans can come and be willing donors, rather than become unwilling victims in the streets to single, roaming vampires. Shortly thereafter, vamps start acting psychotic and out of control at the blood banks, killing people in a frenzy. To make matters worse? Val's little sister has decided that volunteering at the local blood bank is great idea!
This book is much smoother then the first and you can tell that Ms. Blue has really gotten a handle on her characters. This story has much better tension, more romance, a larger cast of characters and a more intense mystery. I liked it much better then the first all the way around! I am now eager to move on to the next book in the series---well done, Ms. Blue!
