Can you really put the past behind you and truly forgive
when someone has hurt you deeply? These three women are all
trying to do just that. Bethanne Hamlin and her daughter,
Annie, are taking a cross-country road trip with Bethanne's
ex-mother-in-law, Ruth. Each of them is trying to sort out
damaged relationships in their past and find their way to
happiness in their future.
Ruth is planning this trip to return for her fiftieth class
reunion. Bethanne and Annie are accompanying her so that she
is not driving from Oregon to Florida alone. They also need
this time to sort out relationships with the men in their
lives. This carefully planned trip takes several detours
that are not in the itinerary, but the three women have the
time of their lives, a time they will never forget.
Along the way, Bethanne meets Max, a biker who helps them
when their car breaks down. She has an instant connection
with him. She senses a sadness in him that compels her to
want to know him better. She went through her own dark time
when Grant, her ex-husband, walked out six years ago on
their twenty year marriage.
Ruth, Bethanne and Annie share secrets from their past and
ponder the decisions they need to make in each of their
relationships. Ruth is hoping to reconnect with her high
school sweetheart. Bethanne is torn between taking Grant
back and pursuing Max, this new man in her life. Annie has
been hurt deeply by her long-time boyfriend and just needs
to sort out her feelings.
Debbie Macomber returns us to Blossom Street where we first
met Bethanne six years ago. She tells Bethanne's story in A
TURN IN THE ROAD, a story about betrayal and forgiveness in
relationships. You'll love the road trip and the surprises
it brings. If you're a Blossom Street fan, this latest
installment is just for you! It's a real winner!
In the middle of the year, in the middle of her life,
Bethanne Hamlin takes a road trip with her daughter, Annie,
and her former mother-in-law, Ruth. They're driving to
Florida for Ruth's 50th high-school reunion. A longtime
widow, Ruth would like to reconnect with Royce, the love of
her teenage life. She's heard he's alone, too . . . and,
well, she's curious. Maybe even hopeful. Bethanne herself
needs time to reflect, to ponder a decision she has to
make. Her ex-husband, Grant—her children's father—wants to
reconcile now that his second marriage has failed.
Bethanne's considering it . . .
Meanwhile, Annie's out to prove to her onetime boyfriend
that she can live a brilliant life without him!
So there they are, three women driving across America. They
have their maps and their directions—but even the best-
planned journey can take you to a turn in the road. Or lead
you to an unexpected encounter—like the day Bethanne meets
a man named Max, who really is a hero on a Harley. That's
when Bethanne's decision becomes a lot harder. Because
Grant wants her back, but now there's Max . . .
From Seattle's Blossom Street to the other end of the
country, this is a trip that could change three women's
lives.
Debbie Macomber used to be my favorite author, but in recent years she's been replaced by others like Susan Mallery, Sherryl Woods, Susan Wiggs, and Robyn Carr...however with a Turn In The Road Ms. Macomber has again become a favorite.
I loved that she took three generations of women and allowed them time away from their families to focus on their own needs and personal growth.
As I read I could see how each woman's history even though so very different affected their presents, and how those presents were viewed through different perspectives gave hope for happy futures.
I believe that A Turn in The Road was one of the books that I've enjoyed the most this year. (Sandi Shilhanek 9:28am June 8, 2011)
