Chantal, singer and drummer of the Redheaded Stepsisters, was out to reinvent herself as Delaney Spencer. You can't hide talent but you can camouflage yourself so people will believe what they see -- a coffee drinking female singer/drummer in a small town band playing weekend gigs in baggy shirts in a town called Otter Tail. Certainly not a burned out druggie band singer whose face was splashed across newspapers several years ago as the lover of the lead singer who overdosed and home wrecker. Delaney was enjoying her anonymity in a town whose people accepted her for who she was now. She was a private person intent on distancing herself not only from the self-destructive personality that was Chantal but from the lifestyle that stole her self-respect and made her someone she couldn't abide. She hit bottom with her drug and alcohol dependence but received a life saving wake-up call when Diesel died. She thought she had successfully escaped, but Delaney had something that someone wanted very badly -- worth doing anything to get -- including play the role of someone who cared for her. And after being alone for quite some time Delaney was vulnerable and more than happy to find people to care for and get that in return. Just as it seemed she was getting back on track life threw another curve.
In walked Sam McCabe, Diesels brother, with a secret agenda. First thing he had to do was win over this woman who didn't remotely resemble the Chantal he had been searching for but once he heard her sing there was no doubt -- he'd found her. Having taken on the role of temporary guardian of Diesel's children, Sam was in a precarious position. He needed money. And he knew where to find some.
Sam's not a bad guy but he has been placed in a role he felt truly unsuited for. He doesn't believe in love or happy ever after and he has no room in his life for anything remotely resembling a family. Guilt over her role in Diesel's death was just the tool to use to get Delaney to turn over un-aired tapes they had made together. But no one could have anticipated the chaos that would ensue.
Talk about falling in love -- you can't help but find yourself deeply involved in the lives of these good but damaged people. Digging your way out of a deep hole is difficult and trying to make yourself over seems almost impossible. But you can't help rooting for this unconventional match-up. Add two adorable kids to the mix and, well, it's inevitable.
She's deleted every trace of Chantal, the celebrity rocker
she used to be. Delaney Spencer is making good as a
carpenter, a staunch friend and a decent member of the
community in Otter Tail, Wisconsin. This is her home now.
Except Sam McCabeβsibling to her late bandmate, Dieselβhas
found her. And he needs her to hand over the unreleased
songs she and Diesel made together. For the sake of his
brotherβfor the sake of Diesel's children. She's desperate
to be a better person and do the right thing. But not if she
has to reveal that she's Chantal.
She won't do it. Not even for Sam.
