Just recovering from a major battle, half-vampire Cat and her vampire husband Bones are due for some relaxation. Too bad they won't get it. Cat's hybrid powers start amping up with strange consequences, and she discovers that some interesting rumors go along with her hybrid status, rumors that have the ghouls and vampires in an uproar, afraid she'll tip the scales in a vampire/ghoul war. She goes to get information from their frenemy, the queen of the ghouls, but the information is given in such a way that Cat and Bones aren't sure they were given any help at all. In addition, Cat is trying to keep it quiet that she must feed from powerful vampires, not mortals, and that she tends to absorb their powers for a while afterward, often with disastrous results. Meanwhile, Cat's not only dealing with threats to her life, a sudden attraction to ghosts, and the emotional rebound from prior battles, she's got to deal with her mom's revenge-fueled desire to battle evil...just like her daughter.
Spicy and funny, THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE makes one want to read the entirety of the Night Huntress series because it is just so well-written.
Danger waits on both sides of the grave. . .
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones
have fought for their lives, as well as for their
relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the
latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten
to upset a long-standing balance.
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors
abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting
tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two
powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become
collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek
help from a dangerous ''ally''--the ghoul queen of New
Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove
more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural
war--to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never
imagined.
