The merging of two lives is never easy, and sometimes much more complicated than expected. Take Chris's catfish collection. Lois can't imagine what she's expected to do with this stuff as they move toward combining two households in the wake of their impending nuptials. But that's the least of what Lois has to deal with. Chris decides to give his mobile home away to one of the Mexican families in need. Then, just as their wedding takes place, their whole worldβand that of Greenβis turned upside down.
Sometimes book 3 in a three book series is disappointing, as if the author ran out of story but had to fulfill his/her contract. Such is not the case with THE GLORY OF GREEN. The life and times of Lois Barker continue in Green, Louisiana with almost the entire cast of original characters; that is, everyone who survived book 2. This is a hard book to review because nearly everything that happens is an unexpected plot twist, and I don't want to give anything away. There are new things to celebrate, new things that sadden and many things that will make you laugh as the story of this committed newswoman and how she changes a town as much as they change her draws to a conclusion. Suffice it to say, exactly what you expect to happen with Lois in Green, which is pretty much the thing you least expect, happens.
Christie's engaging style makes the story a page-turner, and the characters are as believable and lovable as ever. I would have liked to see Lois grow in her faith a bit more. She's not far from where the series began, and this feels like a bit of a miss for me. Still, other characters, including Chris, put a good face on faith and inspire both Lois and readers to believe. Perhaps Lois will reappear and finally come to terms with her faith in another, new series? I look forward to the next set of books from author Judy Pace Christie.
Wedding plans are underway, and Lois Barker is figuring out how gracefully to get rid of her groom's catfish collection--stuffed, ceramic, woven. Her husband-to-be Chris, on the other hand, has decided to get rid of something else his homestead, which he is giving to a needy Mexican family at church. Life is full of possibilities and the community of Green is tickled pink that their newspaper owner is settling down with one of their own. However, our small-town journalist is about to be blown away -- by tragedy and by the grace that enfolds her in her third year in Green, Louisiana.
