Dan Shaw has only been practicing law for a few months, but already he's unsure if it's the profession that will make him happy. Surprising everyone, he sets sail, planning to spend the entire summer on the water and maybe come home with some plans. But alas, any idea of quiet, serene moments on his boat are lost when he finds a naked, nearly drowned woman in the water.
As he learns more about Kate and the fact that her husband attempted to murder her, Dan finds himself embroiled in the kind of trouble that just seems to follow him around. He can't deny his feelings for Kate, nor can he stop himself from playing White Knight and attempting to help her. She must get her young son away from his father, who's taken the boy to the Dominican Republic where he's almost untouchable.
I first met Daniel Shaw (and his friend, lawyer Tom Petrie) in SEA OF BONES, and I've been anxiously awaiting this new book. I wasn't disappointed. Terrific characters and an excellent plot combine to make a superb read. I have only one complaint and that's about the romance. Too much love, too fast. I'm never convinced that the two characters love each other that much.
But that aside, Faust is a witty writer who develops complex plots and characters, enthralling the reader. He is definitely one of my favorite new discoveries -- these books are a must-read. Everyone should meet Petrie -- he's a hoot.
Dan Shaw has been practicing law only four months and heβs
already burned-out. Add the fact that heβs just lost his
girlfriend and the cops are scouring his dubious past, and
itβs no wonder Shaw decides to set sail for the summer. But
even alone in the middle of the sea, trouble finds him.
Sheβs naked, nearly drowned, and has little memory as to
how she got that way. But the real story is even more
twisted. Cesar Cardinal is a diplomat who takes diplomatic
immunity literally. A playboy and high-stakes gambler, heβs
feigned his wifeβs suicide at sea and taken their young son
to a heavily armed compound in the Dominican Republic,
where U.S. law canβt touch him. But thatβs not going to
stop Shaw. From Bell Harbor to Monte Carlo, heβs baiting a
trap with his own lifeβ¦and thereβs no telling what heβll
catch.
