Three battle weary Scotsmen return a slain village lass, Lilliard, to Selkirk and discover a female toddler, Josselin, alone while her mother is in battle against the English. In England, Edward Armstrong sends his six-year- old son, Andrew, with a parchment of his mercy killing of a Scots female pleading for him to finish her suffering. Returning home, he finds his father has hung himself over the grief at what he was forced to do.
Now an adult, Andrew has taken the alias of Drew MacAdam, seeking his revenge with the Scots by masquerading as a Highlander and earning his living by taking their money on wagers of golf. Highly skilled with the sword, Jossy is serving Queen Mary in Edinburgh as a spy under the guise of a beer wagon wench. Drew and Jossy are destined to distract each other, unaware of the history they share. Reluctantly engaging in sensual loving-making, both become entangled in Jossy's espionage. Jossy is erroneously pegged as a Scots traitor, which has them fighting for their lives, wielding their swords and their clever minds as they devise a plan of survival.
If anyone can compose a thrilling historical saga of the war between England and Scotland and still fill it with love and excitement throughout, it's Kira Morgan. Be prepared for scalding heat between the characters, along with their rocky but enticing relationship. This is definitely a page-turner with surprises at every turn. Don't miss this one!
