When the strongheaded Lady Amelia Wellesley steps off the train in the tiny, dusty town of Small Fork, Texas, she is a little taken aback by the dismally grim community. It's nothing at all like her fiancรฉ Carson Kitteridge had described to her when they were back in England. And the further Amelia ventures forth into the town, the worse it gets. But nothing will be as shocking as finding Carson filthy, drunk, and in the arms of the town's "lady of the night." Needless to say, the engagement looks to be off.
Embarrassed and furious, Amelia finds that she is stuck in Small Fork until the next train comes through -- in a week. When Carson's brother Boone offers Amelia a place to stay until then, she is reluctant to accept -- after all, Carson had described his older brother as being a bit 'touched" in the head. Amelia is amazed to discover that not only does Boone own the only store in town, he is also the town's doctor and not at all mentally-incapable. In fact, he is incredibly handsome and kind, and Amelia soon finds she is falling for another Kitteridge man.
In Jane Goodger's novel, A CHRISTMAS WALTZ, she continues her holiday-themed, Victorian era romances that began with her 2008 book, Marry Christmas and 2009's A Christmas Scandal. In this story, Goodger gifts her readers with Amelia's tale, and she once again delights her fans with the wonderfully descriptive narrative that is filled with humor and sensuality.
