After 15 years of living in the mortal world, Jenni Weaver has adapted and settled in. So when a dwarf comes knocking on her door, Jenni is not inclined to answer. But the dwarf is on a mission and is not inclined to take "no" for an answer. The dwarf is an emissary, sent by the rulers of the Lightfolk, the Eight, to procure Jenni's help by any means necessary for a task only Jindesfarne Mistweaver, halfling and elemental balancer, can complete. The Eight dangle the fate of Jenni's only living kin, her brother Rothly, as bait.
Even though her brother has disowned her and blames her for the death of their family Jenni feels compelled to help him and uphold her family honor. Jenni also hopes their relationship can be repaired. Aiding Jenni on her quest is Aric, her ex-lover. An uneasy alliance develops between the two, both are still racked with guilt over the death of Jenni's family. A battle they should have been at but were together instead, arriving on the battlefield only when it was too late to save her family. Although strong-willed and powerful, Jenni has lived among mortals for a long time. She is too trusting and not battle-ready enough to face the warriors from the dark side. One Dark Lord in particular, Kondrian, is responsible for wiping out Jenni's family and he is determined not to stop until he has her, as well.
Although ENCHANTED NO MORE didn't have the same appeal for me as Ms. Owens' Celta series, I still enjoyed it. The characters were believable enough and the action moved the book along. I liked the Lightfolk, in particular the Brownies. Jenni's brother was as bitter and hateful as I would expect him to be and, even though his hatred was unreasonable, it rang true. He lost his family and needed someone to blame. Aric and Jenni's problems didn't immediately disappear, but they faced their issues and worked together. Their guilt holds them back, but doesn't cripple them completely. The villain was fairly one dimensional, but he was Evil, so it worked fine for me; I didn't need him to have a lot of layers. I will be recommending this to friends and customers.
As one of the last surviving Mistweavers, half-blood Jenni
knows what it's like to be caught between two worlds: the
faery and the human. But the time has come to choose. The
Lightfolk require her unique talent for balancing the
elements to fend off a dangerous enemyβand rescue her
missing brother.
Only for Rothly will Jenni deal with those who destroyed
her life. Only for him will she agree to work with her ex-
lover, Tage, and revisit the darkest corners of her soul.
For a reckoning is at hand, and she alone has the power to
hold back the forces of darkβ¦.
