Fiona McDonald is a Keeper, one of an elite group of warriors charged to keep the peace between the human and supernatural worlds. Though new to their legacy, she and her sisters take their job seriously. Based in New Orleans, one of the most haunted cities in the USA, they are always on alert in their work of maintaining a safe balance between worlds.

Someone, however, is determined to tip the balance of power in favor of the supernatural world. Bodies begin to turn up, drained of blood, obviously the work of a rogue vampire. Detective Jagger DeFarge is assigned to the case, and he and Fiona must work together to stop a madman from igniting a war between man and vampire. Fiona must trust Jagger with her life, which goes against all she's been taught, for Jagger is a vampire.

Heather Graham's THE KEEPERS is a well-written suspense romance in Harlequin's Nocturne series. The story is neatly plotted with enough twists and turns to keep the reader entertained. I had a bit of trouble with the whole supernatural aspect of the story; paranormal characters were a bit too human. Overall, however, the suspense elements worked, making THE KEEPERS a good read.
