Once again, Sandra Hill does not disappoint her readers.
DARK VIKING continues her series featuring time traveling
Vikings. In this book, we meet Rita who joins Women on
Earth, Air, Land and Sea. While she is in training, she is
suddenly transported back in time, caged, and labeled as
dangerous.
Depressed and lonely, Lord Steven finds himself drawn to
Rita once he sees that she is all woman under her gear. When
she mentions knowing a man similar to him with the same name
as his brother, Steven must find out just what is going on.
I really enjoyed this book. Rita is a wonderful and strong
woman who will do what she must to survive. Steven is an
engaging man; he may act like a brute at times, but he has a
big heart. I liked watching the relationship build between
Rita and Steven. No matter how sexy Steven might be, Rita
does not let him push her around. It was nice to see a
heroine stand on her own and not depend on the hero to
rescue her.
The banter between the two is wonderful. I loved that, in
helping Rita fit in to his time, Steven gradually comes out
of his depression and begins to live life again.
This book is full of humor, and sometimes I was even
laughing out loud, but of course that is what I expect when
reading a Sandra Hill story. Her characters are always full
of emotion and depth, and always living in the moment.
DARK VIKING is a wonderful book that successfully mixes
romance, adventure, and humor. Frequent readers of Sandra
Hill's books will be nicely entertained, and new readers may
end up going in search of her other books.
Rita, a former stunt woman, can't believe she signed up to
be a female Navy SEAL. She needed the signup money to pay
her mother's medical bills.
Steven, a fierce Viking warrior is depressed over the
"death" of his brother Thorfinn. Yep, even Vikings get the
blues.
Rita can't believe she's been tossed back in time to the
tenth century wearing a head-to-toe wetsuit and flippers
with her face cammied up.
Steven can't believe the gods have sent him a fish woman to
ease his woes. Not a beautiful mermaid, but an ugly-as-death
fish.
How dare the brute put her in a cage!
How dare the wench teach his people line dancing!
Love and laughter guaranteed in this trip down Memory
Lane...uh Fjord.
