While being read a fairy tale and scarred beyond belief by
someone brandishing a hot running iron to one side of his
face he asked this prophetic question of the kindly woman
who took him in and cared for him as one of her own: Why did
a beautiful princess kiss a frog to change him into a
handsome prince -- couldn't she love him even if he were not
handsome." Her answer was simple -- the right one would. Now
a grown man Diablo had earned his reputation as a half-breed
gunfighter with a personal mission. To track down the men
who had been brutal to a young scared teenager and mete out
his own form of justice. Sunny & Swen Sorrenson were
beholden to Hurd Kruger even though neither trusted him.
Hurd was eager to start a range war to drive out newcomers
who planned to start farms and ranches neighboring his and
was not above hiring on a band of gunfighters to do the
dirty work for him. Diablo rode into town with the
gunfighters but with his own agenda. Hurd's ranch held the
answer to his revenge and he wasn't beyond using Sunny.
Question was her relationship to Hurd. As time went on
Diablo was systematically causing havoc to the rancher's
plans culling the herd of gunfighters it would seem. But in
actuality he was singling out very specific men. Oddly
enough Hurd wasn't getting the connection. But when Sunny is
kidnapped by Diablo the games stakes had significantly
risen. With Sunny as the pawn Diablo is faced with
increasingly difficult possibilities not the least of which
is that she is truly an innocent in all this. Not to mention
the unbelievable possibility that she is no longer disgusted
and alarmed by his disfigurement. Could a man who didn't
believe in fairy tales have found his very own princess?
Georgina Gentry seems to like pairing odd couples. Earlier
books I've read of hers left me thinking of diamonds in the
rough and with Diablo this is still the case. Looking past
peoples imperfections whether physical, emotional or social
is the objective with great rewards as the prize. Just
another bunch of Gentry characters to fall in love with. Enjoy.
They call him 'Devil', and with good reason. The half-breed
Santee Sioux bears the twisted scars that made him the
fastest, deadliest gunfighter in Texas. Diablo will never
forget the kind cattleman who once took him in, but it is
his torturer who haunts his every thought. And when some
powerful Wyoming ranchers come looking to hire ruthless men
for a wicked job, Diablo seizes the opportunity to settle a
score...Her name is Sunny, and she more than lives up to it.
She's a dazzling ray of light - and the bride-to-be of Hurd
Kruger, the man who scarred Diablo. What better way to
destroy Kruger than to capture, dishonour, and dump his
greatest prize? It's a perfect plan, except for the one
thing Diablo never counted on...the only thing that could
turn him away from the dark side, the angel who could save
his bedeviled soul...
