TRAGEDY AT TWO is one of the series of Lois Meade Mysteries and gets you completely caught up in the happenings of the small, but very busy, village of Long Farnden. Lois Meade is a daughter, wife, and mother who owns and operates her own cleaning business. However, as normal as this sounds, Lois also has a bit of a "different" side to her life. She's a police informant who is in quite high demand with the local police department.
In this novel, murder hits very close to home for Lois and she's called in to help find someone who seems to be a heartless killer. Lois is happy to help because this is a very important case for her so she dives in head first to find out all she can about who could have committed such a heinous act.
Ms. Purser has created quite the colorful little village in this series. You will meet not only Lois, but her husband, mother, son, and daughter along with Inspector Hunter Cowgill, whom Lois works closely with to solve the different cases. Surrounding characters include other members of the village, and in this book, members of the Gypsy group passing through.
This is not so much a nerve jangler as it is engrossing and puzzling while the main plot and each of the subplots are explored and resolved. It's also quite a fun sort of book, although Lois seems to be a bit of an abrupt character. She does show a good heart, however. There are also some rather broad hints at an attraction between Lois and Inspector Cowgill but Lois will never act on that attraction, as she is happily married to a good man. But the teasing is there.
TRAGEDY AT TWO is a great little book to curl up with on a rainy day. It has suspense, murder, adultery, humor, and everything you need to create a wonderful book. The world that Ms. Purser has created is one that you really can simply drop into and feel as if you are a true part of the village. She allows you to get to know her characters and feel like you LIVE there yourself.
Do yourself a favor and pick up TRAGEDY AT TWO. You will become a part of the village of Long Farnden. Lois will be happy to be your guide to life there.
From the author of Warning at One--another Lois
Meade mystery that proves there's no good time for
murder. Lois Meade's daughter was admittedly
considering leaving her partner, Rob-but she never expected
him to be found badly beaten and left for dead in a ditch by
the side of the road. When Rob tragically dies from his
injuries without regaining consciousness, Inspector Cowgill
has a murder investigation on his hands, and once again he
engages the assistance of the woman he respects above all
others-Lois. Suspicion quickly falls on the
traveling gypsies who are camped out on Alf Smith's
property. There is strong prejudice among many in the
village who consider the gypsies no better than tramps and
thieves. Lois must follow a twisted path that leads to
arson, local delinquents, secret assignations, and
blackmail-before she can discover who's been tinkering with
the truth...
