The gruesome death of Col. Emmett Portman in Turkey brought together two CID special agents who would rather not be working together. Anna Masters and Vin Cooper's personal relationship had ended and she's now engaged to someone else. Awkward doesn't begin to cover it.

But the two have a job to do and soon; more people die, bringing their focus sharply to the investigation. Unfortunately, they're going in many directions, bumping into CIA agents, local police and corrupt businessmen. And the murders are odd -- apparently the work of a serial killer, but with strange elements that indicate different killers.

Although they're barely speaking to each other, Masters and Cooper are fighting the good fight -- battling psychopathic killers, poisoned groundwater that connects to an ongoing U.S. lawsuit and even being buried alive together. Sometimes closeness isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Air Force Special Agent Vin Cooper's smart-alecky personality shines in this David Rollins novel. The tension between him and Masters plays into the fast-paced action dominating the pages, creating enough humor to keep it fun, but blending perfectly with the tenseness of murder and stress.
