Averill Mortagne of England stutters at every marriage prospect her father presents. Her fiery red hair and a small mark on her cheek leave all prospects running, accusing her of having signs of a devil.
After three years, Averill's brother, Will, returns from being held prisoner with a Scottish friend, Kade, in tow. Kade becomes fascinated with Averill as she nurses him back to health from near death. After uncovering Averill's spirited and feisty character, he desires to marry her himself. They travel to Stewart Castle in Scotland for Kade to take over as Laird of the keep from his drunken father, who has allowed it to fall into ruin. Kade and Averill soon find themselves dodging arrows, falling stones and other attempts on his life. But adorable seven-year-old Laddie appoints himself Averill's personal bodyguard. And Kade's new wife constantly surprises him with her feisty independence and fiery temper.
THE HELLION AND THE HIGHLANDER is completely amusing and full of action with the spirited Averill who has a definite mind of her own. She matches the handsome Kade in every way, always coming up with the unexpected. I truly loved these two characters. You can't help but follow along as they trek their way in finding an unexpected love from an arranged marriage. I would highly recommend this funny and entertaining read with its many delightful characters.
Only one man could set her heart ablazeβ¦
Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper
as a young girl. But if her father insists on parading her
before one more English lord who looks askance at her flame-
colored hair, sheβll simply scream! Her only respite is the
time she spends with Kade Stewart, the wounded Scot her
brother brought home from the Crusades. Who could have
imagined a Highland warrior would be the only gentleman
around?
Lady Averill helped save his life, and for that Kade is
truly grateful. She is also almost unbearably beautiful,
but he could never subject such a sweet and gentle lady to
the rough life of a Stewart lairdβs bride . . . or could
he? When she braves an unexpected danger by his side,
Averill will prove to Kade that her heart is as fiery as
her hair . . . and that submitting to their scorching
passion would be heaven indeed.
