Romance

Taking up where the author left off in THE HOUSE ON TRADD STREET, Realtor Melanie Middleton is renovating her historic house that was bequeathed to her by Nevin Vanderhorst. Her relationship with handsome author Jack Trenholm is definitely on the off switch since he arranged a meeting between Melanie and her mother, Ginnette Prioleau Middleton, who deserted her only child over thirty years ago and left Melanie with her alcoholic career-military father. Ginnette wants to purchase the Prioleau family mansion, the same house she sold when her mother died, and she wants Melanie to act as her realtor. When Melanie refuses, Ginnette plays dirty pool by calling her daughter's boss and requesting Melanie's services. Actually, Ginnette has had some psychic premonitions and is extremely worried about Melanie.

Another person is interested in the Prioleau house on Legare Street, reporter Rebecca Wells. She contacts Melanie for some background information on Ginnette, which Melanie refuses to talk to her about. This doesn't stop the woman from dogging Melanie and trying to talk with her. Rebecca has a real interest in the house, also, but plays things close to her chest.

Both Melanie and Ginnette have psychic abilities, and they sense an evil about their old home. The spirit that protected Melanie as a child once again is called upon to protect her from a malevolent spirit that has been waiting decades for revenge.

THE GIRL ON LEGARE STREET is beautifully written with interesting, intelligent characters and a touch of the paranormal. The story is dark, oft times scary, and to the reader that did not read the Tradd Street book, very confusing. At long last, though, Melanie finds out why her mother left, and things might look better for her and Jack, even though Jack has a big surprise awaiting him.
