Annie Capshaw's life is just about perfect. She's set to
marry Jim MacDonald, owner of the pub where Annie is
business manager, and her best friend Eve is knee deep in
Annie's wedding plans. This gives Annie something to occupy
her time while Jim's cousin redecorates his house to make
it more to Annie's tastes. Yes, things couldn't be better,
until Jim's cousin, Alex, is arrested for the murder of a
local woman.
Alex has no memory of events after he left the bar, but he
does admit to a relationship with the murdered woman.
Knowing Annie's reputation as a sometimes-amateur-
detective, Alex asks Annie to investigate. More than
willing to help her soon-to-be cousin, Annie insinuates
herself into the woman's inner circle. In a world of
Stepford-like families, Annie is sure things cannot be as
perfect as the little neighborhood leads her to believe.
When a second woman is murdered, it's up to Annie to
discover who is killing these seemingly perfect women
before Annie becomes a victim herself.
MURDER HAS A SWEET TOOTH by Miranda Bliss is a well-
written whodunit, the latest in the Cooking Class Mystery
series. The characters are well-rounded and the
interactions between them are entertaining and believable.
This is the first in this series I've read, so I feel like
I've missed some backstory, but knowing the past history of
the characters isn't necessary to enjoy this current story.
The mystery is cleverly plotted and the reader is treated
to both a surprise plot twist and a happy ending for Annie.
I look forward to going back and catching up on earlier
stories in the series, and am hopeful that another will
soon follow, though the ending did make me wonder if Annie
was going to settle into domestic bliss and give up her
career as an amateur detective.
Annie Capshaw has found that the way to a man's heart is
through his cooking class. But just as she and her best
friend, Eve, are planning Annie's big day with Jim, her
former cooking instructor turned boss, murder takes the
cake. Make that the wedding cake...
