Kathy Callahan has a crush on her plumber Stan Bradley. Her son Tommy is touring Europe with her ex-husband and his new wife, so now would be a good time to see if Stan is as interested in her as she is in him, but she didn't mean for Stan to get hurt in the process. A little harmless flirting in front of possible rivals was just to make Stan jealous, not get him in a fistfight defending her honor. Soon after arriving on his doorstep to apologize, Kathy finds herself in the middle of a gun fight between Stan and two big goons she's never seen before. Kathy's defense is conking one guy on the head with a toliet tank lid but Stan clips the other guy with a bullet, allowing them to make a getaway in Kathy's floral shop van. Except Kathy isn't sure who or what are they making a getaway from, does Stan?
It seems that Stan is actually Luke Hunter and he's in the Witness Protection Program. Luke is an FBI agent who had gone undercover to get the goods on a guy named Lorenzo, a big time criminal with the ability to eliminate people willing to testify against him. Luke's WitSec contact is strangely silent, leaving Luke on his own to come up with a way to protect himself and Kathy. Working against him is Kathy's extreme dislike of men in law enforcement and his own doubts about who Lorenzo might have on his payroll in this small Texas town. While Luke struggles to stay one step ahead of the bad guys, Kathy is struggling to figure out why she still has such trust and faith in Luke after all the lies. But they both have secrets that need to be shared if these two want to try a relationship, if they even survive.
Kathy might be the last member of the Divorced, Desperate, and Delicous club to find a potential new husband, but there's a small hint in this book that there could be a new series on the horizon. Balls-with-no-Chain Gang was formed by three recently divorced men who have sworn off relationships, sounding like the male equivalent of Kathy, Sue, and Lacy's club. Fans will be relieved that more action-packed romance may just be on it's way.
Of the Divorced, Desperate and Delicious club, Kathy Callahan is the last surviving member. Oh, her two friends haven’t died or anything. They just gave up their vows of chastity. They went for hot sex with hot cops and happy second marriages—something Kathy can never consider, given her past. Yet there’s always her plumber, Stan Bradley. He seems honest, hardworking...and skilled with a tool.
Kathy’s best-laid plans are about to hit a clog. The guy snaking her drain isn’t what he seems. He’s handier with a pistol than a pipe wrench, and she’s about to see more action than Jason Statham. The next forty-eight hours promise hot pursuit, hotter passion and a super perky pug. And at the end of this wild escapade, Kathy and her own undercover lawman will be flush with happiness . . . assuming they both survive.
