As soon as Detective CeeCee Gallagher hears the location of a recent murder, she flies to the scene with even more haste than normal. A young girl has been murdered at the rumored location of where a supposed witch was killed generations ago. Mary Jane's Grave became a local legend and supposed haunted area where kids dare each other to prove their courage.

Despite her personal life spiraling out of control, CeeCee decides to investigate not only the current murder, but also any links it might have to the legendary Mary Jane. Only half-heartedly expecting the trail of investigational inquiry to unearth any relevant information, she undertakes multiple cross-country trips to track down unexpected leads. As events keep occurring at the site and historical loops appear to link it to another traumatic area legend, CeeCee increases her dangerous questioning at great risk to herself and those around her.
