IMMORTALS: THE RECKONING is an intriguing trio of stories in
the continuing saga of the
Immortals. In Wild Hunt by Jennifer Ashley, Logan
is a cop and a werewolf who has been banned from his
pack. He was supposed to be the alpha male but the female
chose another. Rather than fight to the death, he left his
pack and moved to LA. He met Nadia, a demon, when he
interviewed her during a case in which she nearly died.
Now, Nadia is calling for his help. He follows her to
Northern California and discovers she has been coerced into
enticing him into a trap. The wolf who replaced him as
alpha male has never gotten over the humiliation of being
considered second best. He wants Logan dead and is willing
to fight unfairly.
Then in Blood Debt by Joy Nash, Arthur Jackson
Cabot IV has longed for the day when he can
take revenge on the man who turned him into a vampire. When
he discovers that the Sidhe who left him asleep and alone in
Paris is still alive, he abducts her. His plan is to use
her to trap LeGrande so that Cabot can stake him.
Leanna has vowed to no longer use her powers to harm and at
first refuses to help the man she left behind in Paris.
However, her love for Jackson is so strong that she is able
to convince him that his being a vampire is no impediment to
them; if only he will give up the plan of revenge.
LeGrande forces the issue and Leanna must rescue her lover
from the evil LeGrande before he can kill Jackson.
Rounding out the trio Beyond the Mist by Robin T.
Popp, Jenna Renfield holds herself responsible for the death of
her parents and sister. She has many friends among the gods
and immortals that occupy Earth. One is Dave, a spirit
walker, who longs to get to know Jenna in a more meaningful
way after he entices her out of her depression.
Sekhmet made a deal with Poseidon that would allow him to
take her first born grandchild. When Poseidon appears,
Sekhmet offers him Jenna in trade.
Jenna accepts the offer of a free cruise to get away from
Dave. Her attraction to him is growing but he seems unable
to give up all the women he dates. Dave follows her because
he senses danger around Jenna.
Jenna will have to prove to Poseidon that she is not guilty
of murder. Only then will she be free to accept the love
Dave offers.
My favorite stories were Wolf Hunt and Beyond
the Mist. As a reader who normally abstains from vampire
stories, Blood Debt was a little more descriptive than I
normally like. It was an engrossing story; just a little
too much blood and gore for me. Even though I keep my
paranormal reading to a minimum, this set has kept my
interest due to the talents of the writers.
Blood Debt by Joy Nash Jackson Cabot's
bright future went dark in 1896 Paris, when he died and was
turned vampire. Now Jackson’s entire existence is focused
on vengeance against the two beings responsible for his
eternal nightmare: the monster that turned him vampire --
and the beautiful Sidhe muse who killed him.
