Army Night Stalker pilot, Shane Garrett, first met Army
doctor Kirby Campbell at the hospital in the Green Zone in
Baghdad. She was pulling shrapnel out of his back side.
When he got a few days off he headed back to the medical
complex to find her and, hopefully, spend some time with
her. Kirby gave him the key to her trailer and told him
to make himself at home. Thus began a h-o-t six-week
affair until they both were rotated out of Iraq.
One year later they meet again in Afghanistan where Kirby
is with a civilian medical relief organization and Shane
has been injured after his black ops helicopter crashed.
He was very bad shape but was kept alive by a SEAL medic
and a few other special forces men. Kirby stabilizes him
enough that he should make it until he can get to a
hospital. She knows that he will lose his leg, but at
least he will live. Shane is recovering at a hospital in
Germany after his surgery when Kirby comes to see him and
wants to be part of his life. His anger, depression, and
drug addled mind sends her away. He doesn't need or want
her pity.
Eighteen long months and fourteen days later their paths
cross again. They are both part of a rescue team going
into a third world South American country to rescue Kirby's
colleague, Dr. Rachel Moore, from rebels demanding ransom
from the U.S. If they survive this mission, there is no
way that Shane is going to let Kirby get away from him
again.
SHATTERED is the third offering in JoAnn Ross' High Risk
series. Whereas the first two books (see FREEFALL and
CROSSFIRE) centered on the two Navy SEALs featured
prominently in this tale, SHATTERED features an Army SOAR
helicopter-jockey. This is one exciting, erotic, and
excellent story that takes the reader from one dangerous
part of the world to another. Strong characters,
excellent pacing, and intricate storylines seamlessly told
in flashbacks makes SHATTERED another mature and very
enjoyable read.
More than a year after his red-hot affair in Baghdad with
Army doctor Kirby Campbell, Army pilot Shane Garrett is
trying to rebuild his life stateside. Kirby is also
stateside, but when she learns a friend is being held
hostage in Central America, she works with Phoenix Team to
organize a rescue-and Shane isn't about to let them leave
him behind. Or let Kirby get away. But when Kirby and Shane
stare danger in the face, they come to know each other in
the way no civilian could ever understand. And they wonder:
can they fight for their country, for their lives-and for love?
