Romance Historical

Why was that man so infuriating? Just looking at his handsome fan and his devastating smile made her want to sink her claws into him! Certainly not to hold him, but to make sure him he felt the sting and aggravation of her perfectly timed and barbed insults! Just because he was now the Earl of Thurston since the death of his father, nothing was going to make her stop baiting Whittaker Cole, her longtime friend and childhood nemesis!

No, nothing would change the mind of the very independent and high-spirited Miss Mirabelle Browning, nothing that is, except the quietly expressed wishes of Whit's mother, the warm and wonderful matriarch of Haldon Hall, who had taken in Mira when her parents died an untimely death.

As Whit and Mira form an unsteady and fake truce to keep Whit's mother happy (at least in public), they suddenly discover each other with new eyes and meet again in a tantalizing and enchanting manner, with some wonderful comic moments.

Thinking it would protect her image with Whit and his family to hide some of the dark deeds going on when she has to stay at her dissolute uncle's place to fulfill the terms of her parents' will, Mira unknowingly places herself in deadly jeopardy. Will Whit be able to retain his family's newly found honour with the Ton when he finds out who is behind the devious criminal actions? Unsure of some people's allegiances, will Whit find out who is plotting to hurt Mira in time?

Spiced with razor sharp wit with a a perfect touch of comic jest, Alissa Johnson has served up a hot and passionate Regency romance like a seasoned pro. With strong secondary characters, intriguing plotline, this is a great read with intriguing twists of fate and scintillating action! This suspenseful romance between two well-suited and charming friends turned into wary lovers will have you lapping up every juicy word. Readers of Johnson's first book (As Luck would Have It) will enjoy hearing more about Alex and Sophie's story and we will all enjoy finding out what happens to Kate in "McAlistair's Fortune" coming out in June! This hot new author will really whet your romantic tastebuds! Enjoy!

SUMMARY

Whittaker Cole, Earl of Thurston, is every debutante’s dream come true. Handsome, rich, and a prime catch on the Marriage Mart, Whit is also reputed to be one of the most unflappable gentlemen in all England. Nothing ever puts him in a temper. Until…

He comes within twenty feet of Miss Mirabelle Browning and loses all control. The women in his household believe divine providence sent Mira to live on the estate adjoining theirs. After the hellion breaks his nose, Whit decides that the divine has nothing to do with it. Until…

He kisses her. After all, it was either that, or wring her neck. But when sparks fly, he’s forced to admit that there might be something to this destiny thing after all. If he can just convince Mirabelle to give fate—and love—a chance.
