Dr. Lara West is on a mission to become the youngest and
best Chief ER doctor in Washington. She's just waiting for
the current holder of the position to retire. Lara's focus
on her career forces her to lead a lonely life without any
attachments other than the patients she's sworn to protect.
Early one evening, she awakes from a deep sleep to answer
her ringing cell phone. To her dismay, the voice on the
other end is not only asking for her medical attention
immediately; he's in her living room bleeding from a bullet
wound. Quickly, Lara's goals for her future start
unraveling before her eyes and she's too confused to stop
it.
Bobby Eyre is many centuries old, surviving the only way he
knows how by keeping a low profile and not killing any
innocents. The beast inside him craves blood; learning to
control it has been more than challenging. Bobby uses the
first stage of Vampirical Harmony to keep his victims
compliant and then wipes their memories. Working as a nurse
at a hospital is extremely convenient with blood easily at
his deposal. That is until cameras are installed and
security is increased since someone is stealing blood.
LOVE WITHOUT BLOOD is exciting from the first page with a
unique writing style and fascinating build-up even with all
the normal vampire lore. I am very curious to see how the
next book takes shape.
"I CAN'T STOP THE BLEEDING," said her nighttime caller.
The intruder then compelled Dr. Lara West to
remove the bullet from his shoulder. She treated his wound,
but that quelled neither his desire for the sweet life
pulsing through the flesh of her thigh, nor the rampant
animal lust that defines his existence.
The darkness
has just begun. Dr. West's identity, what she wants--all
stands in danger of being devoured. Nothing is ever the same
for those inducted into the sinister world of vampires, be
they newly turned monsters or the government agents sworn to
destroy them. Lara West has tasted both power and passion,
and a price must be paid. Yet she's glimpsed salvation in
the night. Hope still remains for... LOVE WITHOUT
BLOOD
Great review by Mandy Burns! I like paranormal romances, and recently read Twilight, which I really enjoyed. Love Without Blood is about characters closer to my age, though, so I am really looking forward to devouring this series! The author's website is also impressive, and the soundtrack (mp3) is definitely worth listening to! (Kim Charnofsky 4:58pm January 18, 2009)
