Sky Taylor loves writing her column for Cape Ann Anchor, a
local newspaper, but has to take on cleaning jobs if she
wants to remain solvent. Hired to clean up after the Art
Association's holiday party, Sky is there when Kyle Fipps
is found dead in a hammock. It was part of his Getaway
Groves development display and at first it was thought Kyle
was "playing" dead. Now the question is who would want to
kill Kyle? There are plenty of suspects to choose from his
wife -who may or not be faithful to her marriage vows- to
both of his Getaway Groves business partners Bill Drecksel
and Tommy Thompson -who may be working their own bit of
business on the side.
Mike, a fellow newspaper employee and Sky's current
boyfriend, is distracted and unavailable more than Sky
likes but what can she do? On the other hand Police Chief
Vega seems to be around more than usual, but that's
probably because of the murder investigation. Right? Or
could it be a certain cleaner has caught his eye? Can Sky
keep her herself squeaky clean in the face of such trouble?
The second book in the Grime Solvers Mystery series, these
books have the oddball characters and a small town setting
that appeal to many mystery series readers. The added bonus
to these books are the cleaning tips the author includes.
There are many ideas to keep a household running smooth,
like using a bar of soap on sticky drawers, scattered about
the story plus one big bonus idea. This time around the
bonus is how to create a "cleaning first-aid kit" that 's
small in size, but big in usefulness. A list of ten
essential items, and how to modify them to fit a small
container, are clearly explained.
Between her newspaper
column and her cleaning clients, cleaning wiz Sky Taylor is
on her way to a stable, self-sufficient life. All she needs
now is a contract to clean City Hall. What she doesn’t need
is another messy murder investigation. What does she get?
Both.
The body of Kyle Fipps, real estate developer
and wannabe actor, is the untidiest remnant of the Art
Association’s annual holiday bash. With his pack of scheming
enemies, and a smattering of even less trustworthy friends,
it’s very likely he was murdered. But when the investigation
leads straight to City Hall, will Sky be the next one
getting swept under the rug?
