Cassie Parker's treasure hunting Aunt Minerva sent her a package from St. Petersburg, Russia. Minerva "liberated" a priceless antiquity from fellow dealer, Max Stone, without his knowledge and passed it along to her niece in Florida. When Cassie opens the package and reads her aunt's note, she's skeptical but willing to give it a go. It's a lover's box created by a Gypsy King over a hundred years ago and it's supposed to make the owner's fantasies come true. The instructions Minerva sent indicate Cassie should write her wants and wishes down in the journal included, then put the journal in the box. Badda-bing, badda-boom. Cassie's wildest dreams will be realized.

Naturally Max wants his goods back and follows the box to Florida. Max breaks into Minerva's antique store, where Cassie is living in the upstairs apartment. Cassie doesn't know he's there for the box, she thinks he's the answer to her first magical request. There's no way Cassie's giving up that box now, no matter how much Max insists it's really his. But he isn't the only one looking for the box. The box is rumored to contain instructions on finding a greater treasure of riches, hidden inside by the Gypsy King who created the box. The Russian Federal Service of Security, headed by Max's old enemy Victor and the Russian Mob Boss Ivan also want the box for their own reasons. Will Max and Cassie be able to keep the box, the journal, and their new relationship intact while fighting against the odds?

The bantering between Max and Cassie sounds genuine and adds an element of reality to their quick connection. They're both flawed, but they know it, so when they recognize that something special in the other; they don't trust it right away but they don't walk away either. The graphic sex scenes are frequent, but they seem appropriate to a story about a magical "lover's box." Although the ending is clear and complete, there is definite potential for more entertaining adventures with Cassie and Max.
