Stephanie "Steve" Reynolds loves being a Texas Ranger, but she'd also love to become a mother someday. Her 15-year on- again-off-again relationship with Ethan Templeton is enough to drive her mad. He excites her, she wants to be with him, but he's a vampire; what kind of relationship could they have?
Ethan loves Steve, but he's never said the words. Watching her grow old while he does not is unbearable and making her a vampira in Texas is against the law. While working on a case of unexplained deaths, Steve requires Ethan's help in finding the monsters responsible. Finding them is proving to be more difficult than anticipated, and Ethan knows how bad they really are -- because he's looking for them, as well.
When Ethan discovers the location of the people he's seeking, he has to face them alone, since everyone else has their own orders to carry out. Steve discovers Ethan and plans to back him up. She's successful until the end of the fight when life as she knows it comes to an end. Now she and Ethan have to make a quick decision, one that could kill them both.
BOND OF DARKNESS is suspenseful and passionate. The story draws you in and makes you really feel it while you're reading it. The Texas Vampires series has been exceptional so far and I generally do not read this type of book. However, I absolutely love Diane Whiteside's writing and highly recommend BOND OF DARKNESS, as well as all the other Texas Vampire books -- they are wonderful!
