Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey has quite the reputation as
a gambler, drinker and debaucher of women. He even has the
nickname, the Libertine of Lindsey because of his various
affairs. When a friend of Nathan's comes to him and tells
him of his estranged wife, Evelyn, who may be in danger
because of the scandals involving the Prince and Princess of
Wales, Nathan has no choice but to go to London and bring
Evelyn back home till the rumors die down.
It has been three years since Evelyn has seen her husband.
After the death of their young son, she thought their
marriage was over because Nathan left her alone to deal with
the pain. Evelyn wants to move on, but when Nathan appears,
ordering her to leave London with him, she refuses. But that
doesn't stop Nathan from kidnapping her and forcing her to
his will. Nathan still loves Evelyn and wants her safe.
Hopefully their time together will help them forgive each
other and the love they once had for one another will grow
again. But Evelyn can't get over the past hurts and wants a
divorce. Nathan will not let Evelyn go without a fight and
starts to court her. Evelyn is not sure what she wants and
slowly allows Nathan to break down her defenses. The once
estranged couple want to begin anew, that is until someone
wants one of them dead. Now Nathan must protect Evelyn and
himself against more than just betrayal and hurt. Will they
ever be able to regain the magic they once had and remain
alive to enjoy their fragile love?
The loss of a child for a parent is the worst possible thing
that can happen. The way Julia London deals with the
aftermath of Nathan and Evelyn's loss is written in such an
incredible way. THE BOOK OF SCANDAL is not some fluffy,
light historical romance, but rather an emotional telling of
pain and forgiveness within ourselves and others. Both
Nathan and Evelyn are responsible for the breakdown of their
marriage and the way they try to rebuild is very moving.
These are two characters who have lost so much and you hope
their path back to each other will allow them to find joy
and happiness again.
Things are not cut and dry in THE BOOK OF SCANDAL even when
the reasons come to light on why Nathan and Evelyn are in
danger. There is intrigue, suspense and some wonderfully
written love scenes between Nathan and Evelyn that will not
disappoint in the least. THE BOOK OF SCANDAL may make you
shed a few tears but it is one book by Julia London that I
have cherished and will not soon forget.
The Princess of Wales has catalogued the shocking
exploits of the outrageous Prince of Wales and many of his
noble friends in a book that has all of London
aflutter...
Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, is infamously known as
the Libertine of Lindsey for his scandalous ways with
women. But when he hears gossip that his estranged wife,
Evelyn, is about to be named in The Book of Scandal, he has
no choice but to remove her from London to protect her and
himself from charges of treason—even if it calls for
abduction.
While Evelyn has no legal recourse against the man who
broke her heart years ago but is still considered her lord
and master, she is no longer the immature girl Nathan
married. Her enforced homecoming quickly turns into a
battle of wills that tears down her husband’s defenses and
lays bare the passion that still burns between them. Before
it is too late, Nathan must confront powerful adversaries
as he convinced Evelyn that she is not only his wife, but
the one woman he will love for all time.
