Fantasy Urban

Gabrielle Cody is bound by God to slay demons, to remove evil from earth. People may see a man or a woman, however, when Gaby looks at them, she sees them as they really are. When evil is near, something inexplicable occurs. Gaby morphs into a stronger, single-minded force of herself who moves on autopilot straight to the source of evil where she inflicts a brutal, bloody death sentence on the demon.

Detective Luther Cross is searching for Gaby. He finds her hiding out in a rundown hotel where she has made it her personal mission to protect the prostitutes from harm. When the word gets out that a woman with a knife beat up a "john" who was too rough with a prostitute, Luther knows it is Gaby. Gaby intrigues Luther. He is sexually attracted to her and drawn to her almost to the point of obsession.

Gaby has never known love. Her life does not allow her the luxury to feel as a woman should. Although she has finally accepted her mission in life, seeing Luther reminds her of the humanity inside of her and the closeness that they have shared in the recent past. When he is near, she loses her edge. She can't allow him to remain in her life, but she knows the loss she will feel when she moves on. Luther works with the reluctant Gaby to track down someone who is kidnapping and killing prostitutes. This time it's not just their hearts that will break -- their lives are in danger.

SERVANT: THE ACCEPTANCE by L.L. Foster is the second book in this series. Gaby is both innocent and wise beyond her 21 years. She has experienced a life that would give anyone else nightmares. Foster has created this tough- mouthed, self-confident heroine, who follows the will of God through the wielding of a strong knife, yet touches a chord in your heart with her innocence in most matters that we take for granted. The hero Luther is a persistent and honorable man who sees beyond the stereotypical cover Gaby uses to blend into the inner-city, to see the beautiful strong person inside her. Foster writes with skill, artfully creating a premise that is bound to capture the readers' attention. For information on her previous book, see my review of SERVANT: THE AWAKENING.

SUMMARY

Gabrielle Cody has accepted her destiny as God’s warrior, charged to destroy all evil, but she wasn’t prepared to see Detective Luther Cross ever again. He’s the beacon of reality in her life, the one thing that makes her feel human, like a real woman.

But Gaby must resist involvement with Luther now, for she is protecting streetwalkers. Her life of retribution is far too dangerous, and this time, it’s not just their hearts that won’t come out unscathed.
