Romance Paranormal | Paranormal

A woman wakes to the smell of smoke. She's in a strange room, covered in blood; three dead men are on the floor and she has a gun. She has no memories of the men, the room or the gun. In fact, she has no memories of her personal history at all; she doesn't even know her name. There's a note pinned to her chest with the word RUN printed on it. The woman runs. Later that night, in a panic, she tries to steal a car. The car belongs to Lannes Hannelore, a gargoyle. This really hasn't been a good day. Lannes Hannelore has little reason to trust anyone, most especially women. He's only recently escaped a witch who liked to carve up his soul for fun. Yet when he finds a strange woman covered in blood trying to steal his car, his protective instincts go on high alert. After convincing the woman she needs his help, she and Lannes set out on a break- neck journey to unravel the mystery that surrounds her. Did she meet him by chance, was it fate, or is something else at work here? The action and adventure never stop in THE WILD ROAD. Marjorie M. Liu has an amazing imagination. She comes up with one original idea after another. It's exciting to start a book by her and know that the story you're going to read isn't something that reminds you of something else. She's had three new stories this summer; THE WILD ROAD, THE IRON HUNT and a short story called Minotaur in Stone in the anthology HOTTER THAN HELL. Three stories in two months and every single one is brilliant!

SUMMARY

Lannes Hannelore is one of a dying race born to protect mankind against demonic forces. And while those who look upon him see a beautiful man, this illusion is nothing but a prison. His existence is one of pure isolation, hiding in plain sight, with brief solace found in simple pleasures: stretching his wings on a stormy night, long late drives on empty highways, the deep soul of sad songs. But when Lannes finds a young woman covered in blood — desperate and alone, with no memory or past — he will be drawn into a mystery that makes him question all he knows. And though it goes against his nature and everything he fears, Lannes will risk his heart, his secrets, and his very soul, in order to save someone who could be the love of his life...or the end of it.
